2024 has been a busy and productive year for the Food Waste Charter.
We welcomed over 40 new members! We now have 65 Charter Members representing businesses and supporting organisations across the whole supply chain.
This is great progress and welcome to the new businesses who made the decision to sign the Charter and pledge their commitment to preventing and reducing food waste. Together we will continue to work towards improving the quality of food waste data and reporting and develop innovative food waste prevention solutions.
The Food Waste Charter Team hosted several workshops to support our members in accurately measuring their food waste, with more to come in 2025.
This year has also seen the publication of the first Implementation Report on the Revised Food Waste Charter June 2023 – June 2024.
The main findings are that members are at different stages of food waste prevention activity. While many are tracking food waste and undertaking initiatives to reduce food waste, many are not yet using the insights from monitoring food waste to identify appropriate interventions in waste generation hot spots.
We look forward to continued focus in 2025 on evidence-led actions in targeted areas, informed by consistent measurement.
